Rising Above: Edward's Journey from Mockery to Mastery

In a European kingdom during the 17th century, there lived a young man named Edward, who worked as a palace guard. Edward was diligent and loyal, always mindful of his duties. However, he was often disturbed by the words and negative attitude of his fellow guard, Richard.

Richard was someone who enjoyed finding faults in others, especially in Edward. Every chance he got, Richard would criticize and ridicule Edward in front of others. Despite Edward's efforts to perform his duties well, he continually became the target of mockery and scorn from Richard.

One day, Edward heard a wise person speaking in the marketplace: "Stop worrying about people that aren't worried about you." Those words resonated deeply within him. Edward realized that he had been overly concerned with the negative opinions of others, especially Richard, who, in reality, didn't care much about him. With newfound determination, Edward decided to focus on his tasks without paying attention to the mockery and criticism from Richard.

He worked with renewed enthusiasm, honing his personal defense skills, practicing his swordsmanship, and even seeking additional knowledge about palace security. Although Richard continued to try to belittle him, Edward no longer gave the negative reactions that his coworker sought.

As time passed, Edward's outstanding performance began to be noticed by his superiors. The King himself heard about his skills and dedication. One day, Edward was invited to meet the King in the palace chambers. It was a significant opportunity for a palace guard to receive recognition and appreciation.

Standing in front of the King, Edward felt tense but proud. The King acknowledged his dedication to duty and bestowed high praise for Edward's service to the kingdom. It was a moment of pride for Edward, and all the negative remarks from the past seemed to dissipate.

On the other hand, Richard, who had always tried to belittle Edward, felt lost. He no longer had a target for his mockery and criticism. Instead, their colleagues, who had previously agreed with Richard, began to see positive changes in Edward's attitude and performance. Some even started to doubt the true motivations behind Richard's behavior.

However, Edward was not overly affected by his success. He remained humble and focused on his work. Unlike before, Edward now had a new spirit and confidence. He even decided to help his other colleagues learn and improve their skills.

One day, while practicing with a fellow guard named Thomas, Richard approached them. Initially wary, Edward was surprised when Richard came to talk, not to criticize. Richard admitted he was wrong in his treatment of Edward and apologized.

He explained that witnessing the positive changes in Edward made him realize his mistakes and negative attitude. Edward accepted the apology sincerely, and the two began to build a better relationship. Richard even asked for Edward's help in learning the art of personal defense, and they became unexpected friends.

The change in Edward's attitude not only affected his work life but also created a shift in the social dynamics within the palace. His skills and dedication opened doors to greater opportunities. Edward was appointed as the commander of the palace guards, entrusted with more significant responsibilities in ensuring the kingdom's security.

This story is not just about individual change but also about the positive power someone can have when they choose not to be influenced by those who try to belittle or harm them. It's a tale of courage, dedication, and the ability to grow through challenges. In the end, Edward discovered that freeing himself from worrying about others' opinions led him to true success and respect.

The short story is inspired by the quote "Stop worrying about people that aren't worried about you."
